Frequently Used Crochet Stitches

These are the crochet stitches used most frequently in my patterns. Some patterns may have pattern-specific stitches not listed here but are listed on the pattern.

Foundation Half Double Crochet (FHDC)

Stitch Definitions

sl st = slip stitch

Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch and loop on hook

ch = Chain

Yarn over, pull through loop on hook

sc = Single Crochet

Insert hook into stitch
Yarn over and pull through stitch
Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook

hdc = Half Double Crochet

Yarn over, insert hook into stitch
Yarn over and pull through stitch
Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook

HHDC = Herringbone Half Double Crochet

Yarn over and insert the hook into the next stitch.
Yarn over and pull the loop through the stitch AND through the first loop on the hook. Two loops remain on hook.
Yarn over again and pull the loop through both loops on the hook.

dc = Double Crochet

Yarn over, insert hook into stitch
Yarn over and pull through stitch
Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook
Yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook

DC Cluster

Yarn over (YO), insert hook in the stitch, YO draw the yarn through the stitch, YO, draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook
Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 3 loops on the hook
One DC Cluster is complete
