Crochet Flag, red, white, blue, with 3 dandelion appliques

April is month of the military child to celebrate and honor the resilience, sacrifices, and unique experiences of children in military. As a former military brat, I know what it is like to relocate over and over again. This crochet pattern is dedicated to all current and former military brats.

Pin it Now, Make it Later

***You can purchase a beautifully formatted, AD-free PDF version of “For The Military Child” crochet pattern on Etsy HERE.

As a former military brat, my family moved a lot.  Before I joined the Air Force, I attended 5 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools.  Some people might call it excessive. Me? It was just my reality.

Moving so much wasn’t always easy and it definitely wasn’t always fun, but it taught me so much about people and also about myself. I became super independent, highly adaptable, and very self-reliant.

When my Air Force friend told me that the official flower flower of the military child was the dandelion, it made perfect sense.  The dandelion can bloom almost anywhere and is impossible to destroy.  The wind may carry it away, but when it lands again it will plant new roots and thrive.

Seriously is there anything more perfect than that?

Being the maker I am, I could not just keep this information to myself. I had to go make something that would honor all military children. That is how this banner came to life.

The red, white, and blue colors were the obvious backdrop for the the lifecycle of the dandelion.

To all you military brats out there. I am you. I see you!
